Incorporating Ephemera

Every time we go on vacation, I come back with tons of maps and tickets and brochures, and I'm always trying to find a way to work them in to my scrapbook pages.  Our tour guide in Budapest gave us this large post card of the Hungarian crown.  I could have slipped it into a 6x12 page protector next to this completed page, but while I was looking at my inspiration page, I realized that the domed shape of the crown mimicked the round center shape, so I replaced the patterned paper with the post card.  I know that its not acid free, and that might not appeal to some people, but my photos are all digital now and backed up in a million places, so I'm not too worried about ruining the prints.  Plus I think it adds to the story.

Christmas in July

Last winter, my sister and I went to a photography workshop at the Christmas in Lights display at Bellingrath Gardens.  I din't want this page to look too Christmas-y, because it wasn't really a Christmas story.  I think the bright paper reflects the bright colored lights.

Create with Polaroids Challenge: Here Come the Brides

One of the challenges Two Peas in a Bucket hosted for National Scrapbooking Day was to create a layout using those oh-so-popular Polaroids.  I love the Polaroid look, and have used the Polodroid app to turn several photos into the Polaroid look.  This time I used some Crate Paper and Silhouette cut frames to frame a print I cropped and some paper.

When we were in Prague, we saw many wedding couples having portraits made in front of the Astronomical Clock.  But one day we were surprised to see a whole group of brides there, and no grooms.  On closer inspection, most of the girls' dresses were being held in with clothespins and clips.  Apparently these Japanese ladies had paid for the opportunity to play bride for the day!

Misting with a Mask: Outside Adventure

Back in May I participated in Ella Publishing's Spring Training Event.  It was tons of fun and I learned a lot.  Thanks Ella!

One of the challenges was to use a mask on a layout, but not a traditional mask, like those from Tim Holtz.  I chose a die-cut patterned paper to mask a zigzag border around my page.  It's subtle, but you can see it if you look closely.  I also used a Lisa Day sketch from the Big Picture Classes National Scrapbook Day event.

Husbands: Do They Ever Really Grow Up?

******************************
Congratulations to the winner of the Ella Publishing Spring Training Event!  Julie (Mowhouse), please contact me to claim your prize!

I love my husband, I really really do.  But most days I think I'm married to a 12 year old in a 42 year old body.  Of course, he informed me that all men are perpetually 12 years old.  He has his Star Wars "collectibles" and his Legos, and he loves playing with 4 wheelers and trucks and tractors on his parents' farm!  Maybe I should've done this layout about me being married to Peter Pan!

The star embellishment started out looking like this:

But the "3" brad didn't really fit with the feel of the layout.  I simply picked another brad from the card that was similar in color and size and swapped them out.  Just another way to stretch your supplies to make them work for you!

I Love a Good Challenge

Normally when I scrap a layout, I like to make my own kit of sorts, picking out products from different manufacturers that look good together.  But I also like a good challenge, and the folks over at the Lily Bee blog gave me a good one!  Using their sketch and products, here's what I came up with.  Even thought there are several collections on the layout, I love that they all coordinate seamlessly.

Prague Train Station

Going to Prague, and particularly Budapest, was like walking into a museum.  It was like time stopped before Communism, in so much of both of these cities.  I wandered upstairs in the ultra-modern Prague train station, and it was like the Land That Time Forgot.  Hidden away, with almost no visitors but an open cafe, was an unrefurbished Art Deco gem.  I hope Prague puts some effort into restoring this beautiful treasure, as they have with so many of their other treasures.

Charles Bridge

When I start a scrapbook page, I tend to pull out papers that pull from colors in the photos.  There is tending to be a lot of yellow and red pages about our time in Prague.

Finally getting to the vacation photos

As you may recall, I have a massive amount of vacation photos from our trip last fall.  Midst the craziness of moving I was able to come up with a plan of attack and get all of the photos I'll be scrapping printed.  I'll show you in a later post how I'm dealing with the album overall, with around 1000 photos to scrap, but here's the page I started with.  I'm not scrapping the photos in any particular order, but they will go in the book divided by city.

I got the music in me

Often I’m inspired by music lyrics for my pages or my titles.  I love this song from the Dave Matthews Band and thought it would be a great layout for a photo of Mark and me.
