Channeling Stacy Julian

I guess I picked something up from Stacy Julian on Episode 67 of the Paperclipping Roundtable.  I went home and picked up some photos of Mark and his niece and nephews and scrapped them.  The trick is, these photos from two different places, at least 6 or 7 years apart, but they show the relationship, tell the story of Mark being an uncle.  But I don’t scrap this way!!!  Stacy, you are rubbing off on me!

I also finally broke into my stash of Crate PaperRestoration”.  This may be my most favorite line ever.  The layout illustrates that you can get masculine layouts from frilly, girly paper with careful choices.  I feel like it still needs something, though.  Distress stickles, maybe?

Oh, oh, Mexico

We’d never taken a cruise.  We’ve been to 4 countries, a bunch of states, and 1824 times to Disneyworld (that might be an exaggeration).  But we’d never been on a cruise together.  I’d been on one with my mom and sister years ago – I won it in a drawing!—but Mark had never been.

So when we found out that Carnival was going to pull its ship out of Mobile later this year, we decided to take the plunge and take a 4-day cruise to Cozumel, instead of our usual long spring weekend to Destin, FL.

Boy did we make the right decision!

The Elation is one of the smallest ships in the Carnival fleet, but it was perfect for a long weekend.  It was so nice not to be on any sort of a schedule, to just relax by the pool.  Oh, and to eat.  Lots of eating on this trip!

In Cozumel we went to the Chankanaab Park.  I highly recommend it, and if you go, just take a taxi yourself instead of through the ship.  Much cheaper!  The beach was absolutely gorgeous, there were beach chairs and tiki huts and restaurants galore.  We didn’t, but they had swimming with dolphins and see-through kayaking.

We did take advantage of the terrific snorkeling right off the beach.  We literally stepped off the stairs to the water and were surrounded by coral and tropical fish.  I even saw a lobster!

We will definitely be back on a cruise in the near future.  Mark is getting to like the beach more, which is great for yours truly, the beach bunny.  I’m hoping the next one will be in the Mediterranean, but we’ll see!  Right now I have to focus on planning our fall trip to Munich, Prague and Budapest!

Maine-ly Maine

A while back I traveled to Portland, Maine for work.  I didn’t even take my camera, just my Iphone 3Gs, thus the terrible pictures.

Evidently, Portland is home of LL Bean.  Great if you like camping.  I like hotels.

I ate a lobster.  This one.  The whole thing.  It was pretty good, but I’ll stick with fried shrimp and crab claws.

Back into the Photo Archives - I Wanna Be a Cowgirl

Do you ever have a project that doesn’t end up being anything like you had pictured when you started?  That’s how this layout went.  When I found the photos, I wanted to do something graphic, like an “I Shot Andy Warhol” sort of a feel.  I made the faux-laroids and hit “Ship” on Shutterfly.  But then I dug into my stash of Crate PaperRestoration”…

Alabama still needs your help

April 28-29 hit Alabama hard.  We’ve been there before, and recovered, and we’ll recover this time.  We’re a tough bunch.  But help is needed.

Although my area of the state wasn't affected (this time - I'm on the coast and have experience many hurricanes), I am a University of Alabama grad, and it hurts my heart to know what other Alabamians are going through in the central part of the state.  How it affected the smaller towns around Tuscaloosa.  All of the pets separated from their owners at the animal shelters.  The names and ages of the dead in last Sunday’s Mobile Press Register.  All those names…

Speaking from experience, the road to recovery is long and difficult, and the continued thoughts, prayers, and generosity from around the nation is greatly needed.

If your area is collecting supplies, please pick up a few things, even from the Dollar store, and donate them.  Or please consider a donation to one of these organizations:

Toomers for Tuscaloosa

University of Alabama Acts of Kindness Fund

If nothing else, please keep all of those touched by last month’s tornadoes in your thoughts and your prayers.  They will be grateful.

Test…test…is this thing on?

Sigh, its been a long time, hasn’t it?  I am sheepishly poking my head back here onto the blog and apologizing for the long long break.  For a while I had a really good excuse: all of my scrap stash was packed away and put in to storage while our house is on the market.  About a month ago I couldn’t take it any more and Mark went and brought all of it home.  Well, almost all of it.  I think I’m still missing a box…

So I’m back to scrapping and sharing here!  National Scrapbooking Day and the Creative Keepsakes/Big Picture Classes crop Saturday really helped out a lot!  So I’ve got a lot to share with you coming up!  This one is from the “Scrap without a Picture” challenge.

May Flaum’s Use Your Stash class at Big Picture Classes last year really has inspired me to dig deep into my stash and use up all of that yummy paper.

[Sorry for the not-so-great photos – my beloved Pentax K7 is having some issues and has to go in for service for a while.]
